Areas of application

Mechanical Engineering and Automation

In manufacturing automation, M12 connectors link sensors, photoelectric sensors and proximity switches to the control system. A-coded connectors are used for standard sensor/actuator cabling, whilst D-coded variants are used for Industrial Ethernet. IP67 protection ensures reliable operation even when in contact with cooling lubricants.

Drive technology

Servo motors and frequency converters require interference-resistant connections for power and signals. Shielded M23 circular connectors carry motor currents of up to 40A, whilst separate M12 connectors carry the encoder signals. Push-pull locking enables quick motor changes during format changes.

Process automation

Designs and standards

The IEC 61076 standard defines the mechanical dimensions and electrical parameters of the most common sizes. M12 connectors comply with IEC 61076-2-101, whilst M8 versions are specified in IEC 61076-2-104. This standardisation ensures compatibility between different manufacturers – such as Binder or Neutrik.

The protection rating classification in accordance with IEC 60529 ranges from IP40 for protected control cabinets to IP68 for continuous submersion. Coding prevents incorrect connections: A-coding for standard sensors, B for Profibus, D for Profinet/Ethernet, and X-coding for high-speed Ethernet connections up to 10 Gbit/s.

Special applications require additional certifications. Designs compliant with medical technology standards in accordance with ISO 10993 ensure biocompatibility, whilst explosion-proof variants are used in potentially explosive atmospheres in the chemical and petrochemical industries.
