Encoding

Rotary encoders capture rotational movements and angular positions with high precision for automation and drive systems. The range includes incremental and absolute versions in various designs and with all common interfaces for industrial communication.

An overview of product groups

  • Incremental encodersCaptures relative positional changes via A/B/Z signals. HTL variants (10-30V) for interference-prone environments with long cable runs, TTL versions (5V) for fast signal processing. Resolutions from 100 to 10,000 pulses per revolution.
  • Absolute rotary encoder single-turnUnique position detection within one revolution without homing. 12 to 16 bit resolution, output via SSI, CANopen or fieldbus-specific protocols.
  • Absolute Rotary Encoder MultiturnIn addition to the angular position, count the number of revolutions. Up to 4096 revolutions detectable, battery-buffered or with mechanical gearing. Interfaces: SSI, CANopen, Profibus, Profinet, EtherCAT.

Areas of application

Drive control and positioning systems

In servo drives and frequency converters, encoders provide the actual position for precise speed and position control. High resolutions enable smooth motion sequences at low speeds. Robot axes use absolute multiturn encoders for reliable position determination after power failure.

Lift engineering

Rotary encoders on driving pulleys and speed governors ensure safe car positioning. Redundant systems with two independent encoders meet safety requirements according to EN 81-20. Hollow shaft versions allow space-saving installation directly on the motor shaft.

Machine tools and machining centres

High-resolution encoders on spindles and feed axes ensure machining accuracies in the micrometer range. SSI interfaces guarantee interference-free transmission of position data. Clamp flange mounting allows for easy replacement during maintenance work.

Packaging and Printing Technology

Synchronisation of conveyor belts, cutting units and printing cylinders via rotary encoders with Z zero pulse. Incremental encoders with high pulse counts capture the slightest speed changes for uniform material transport.

Designs and standards

Mechanical coupling is achieved via solid shafts (6-15mm) with a key or hollow shafts (8-20mm) with a clamping ring. Synchro flanges to DIN allow for backlash-free mounting, and clamping flanges simplify retrofitting. Housings meet IP65 protection for standard applications or IP67 according to IEC 60529 for harsh environmental conditions.

Electrical safety according to IEC 61010 ensures interference-free operation in industrial control cabinets. Operating temperatures from -20°C to +85°C cover most applications. Special versions for extended temperature ranges or Ex protection available.
