Modern machinery and systems require well-designed human-machine interfaces to ensure safe and efficient operation. The range comprises over 2,000 HMI components, from simple pushbuttons to complex control devices – all certified to current safety standards such as EN ISO 13850. The components cover protection ratings ranging from IP40 for control cabinets to IP69K for high-pressure cleaning.

An overview of product groups

  • Push-buttons and switches: Push-button switches with momentary contact or latching function, selector switches with 2–3 positions, key-operated switches for access control, emergency stop buttons in accordance with EN ISO 13850. Available in metal or plastic, illuminated or non-illuminated.
  • Signal lights: LED signal lights in red, yellow, green, blue and white. Steady, flashing or strobe mode. Voltage 12–230 V AC/DC, service life up to 100,000 operating hours.
  • Acoustic signalling devices: Buzzers and horns with a sound pressure level of 60–110 dB. Continuous or intermittent sound, frequencies 200–3000 Hz. Operating voltages 12–230 V.
  • Microswitch: SMD and THT versions for printed circuit board assembly. Operating forces 1.6–5 N, switching cycles up to 1 million. Various operating heights and shapes.
  • Control units and enclosures: Complete units with pre-fitted push-buttons and connections. Polyamide or aluminium housings for 1–12 control points.

Areas of application

Mechanical Engineering and Control Systems

In mechanical engineering, robust control elements capable of withstanding high operating frequencies are required. The pushbuttons must withstand vibrations, temperature fluctuations and mechanical stress. Typical installation locations include machine control panels, mobile hand-held controls and control cabinets. The standardised 22.5 mm mounting cut-out allows for quick replacement during maintenance work.

Automotive industry

Assembly lines in the automotive industry require oil-resistant and high-density control elements. The components must be able to withstand cooling lubricants, cleaning agents and mechanical stresses caused by robots. Emergency stop functions with positively driven contacts are particularly important here to ensure maximum safety.

Medical technology and cleanroom areas

Medical devices require smooth, seamless surfaces to ensure hygienic cleaning. The control elements must be able to withstand disinfectants and steam sterilisation. Membrane pushbuttons and fully encapsulated designs with an IP69K protection rating meet these requirements. Tactile feedback is maintained despite the protective cover.

Designs and standards

The 22.5 mm mounting cut-out in accordance with DIN 43694 has become established as the industry standard. This standardisation ensures compatibility across different manufacturers and simplifies stock management. The electrical characteristics comply with IEC 60947-5-1 for electromechanical control devices and IEC 60947-5-5 for emergency stop devices.

In terms of protection ratings, the range extends from IP40 for dust-protected indoor applications to IP69K for high-pressure cleaning with water at 80°C and a pressure of 100 bar. The front panels achieve these high protection ratings through the use of EPDM or silicone seals. Terminal blocks are usually designed as screw terminals for 0.5–2.5 mm² or as plug-in terminals.

Contact materials are made from silver-plated or gold-plated copper alloys to ensure low contact resistance. Depending on the type, the mechanical service life ranges from 100,000 to 10 million switching cycles. All components comply with the REACH and RoHS directives for environmentally friendly electronics.
