Short-stroke pushbuttons are characterised by an actuation travel of less than 1 mm, thereby enabling particularly low-profile designs whilst maintaining a defined switching point.

Technical details

These compact pushbuttons are available in sizes ranging from 6×6 mm to 12×12 mm and are suitable for both SMD and THT mounting. The short travel, typically 0.25 to 0.8 mm, ensures precise tactile feedback with a minimal profile. The contacts are available in either gold or silver versions – gold contacts for low-voltage applications with low currents, and silver contacts for higher switching capacities of up to 50 mA at 12 V DC. The pushbuttons meet the requirements of IEC 61058 and are RoHS and REACH compliant. Operating forces range from 130 to 350 cN, depending on the design and version.

Applications

In medical technology, short-stroke pushbuttons are used in the control panels of diagnostic equipment and portable patient monitors, where reliability and hygiene are crucial. Measuring and testing equipment utilises their precise switching characteristics for function keys and menu controls. In telecommunications technology, these pushbuttons are found in routers, switches and base stations for reset and configuration functions. Consumer electronics such as smartwatches, fitness trackers and wireless headphones benefit from their low profile combined with high cycle life of over 100,000 operations. In the range: RAFI.
