Key switches combine mechanical access control with an electrical switching function. They can only be operated with a suitable key, thereby preventing accidental or unauthorised switching operations.
Technical details
The key switches are designed for standard 22.5 mm cut-outs and feature integrated cylinder locks. Depending on the version, 2-, 3- or 4-position switch settings are available – either latching or self-resetting. The key can only be removed in specific positions, which ensures additional security. The protection ratings range from IP40 for protected indoor areas to IP67 for harsh industrial environments in accordance with IEC 60529. Various key-cutting options allow adaptation to operational security concepts. In the range: RAFI.
Applications
In machine safety, key switches are used to select between manual, automatic and one-off operation modes. During maintenance work, they secure access to hazardous areas by means of authorisation circuits. In control cabinets and operator panels, they prevent unauthorised changes to parameters. In process automation in particular, key switches protect critical plant components from incorrect operation. The IEC 60947-5-1 standard defines the electrical requirements for the switching contacts.
