M12-X

M12-X connectors enable Gigabit Ethernet connections at speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s in industrial environments. The 8-pin X coding, in accordance with IEC 61076-2-109, has been specially developed for high-bandwidth network applications and offers significantly higher data rates than conventional M12 coding schemes.

Technical details

The X-coded M12 connectors feature 8 pins in a special configuration that supports Gigabit Ethernet in accordance with IEEE 802.3. With an IP67 protection rating in accordance with IEC 60529, the connectors are dust- and water-tight, even when temporarily submerged. The mechanical coding prevents incorrect insertion and ensures secure connections even in the presence of vibrations. Cable connectors are available for pre-assembled cables, as well as panel-mount connectors for equipment front panels and control cabinets. The compact M12 design saves space compared to RJ45 industrial connectors whilst offering the same network performance.

Applications

M12-X is primarily used in time-critical Industrial Ethernet networks. In industrial image processing, the connectors transmit high-resolution camera images to controllers without latency. In EtherNet/IP installations with high data throughput, they connect controllers, HMIs and I/O modules. In factory automation, M12-X connections enable real-time communication between robots, conveyor systems and higher-level control systems.
